I hope you all are having a beautiful week and everyone is safe from this latest round of storms!!
So we all should know by now that tanning beds are just a big NO and are directly exposing people to UV Rays which are cancer causing. As a licensed esthetician I have seen some things in my day regarding skin that has been exposed to constant tanning and it’s not really a great sight. Some of the older women I run across worshiped the sun in their youth and are paying for it now in the form of age spots, leathery textured skin and uneven tone. Each and every one tells me that they would do things differently if they knew then what they know now.
I am still baffled as to why young people in their teens and twenties spend so much time in a UV tanning bed. I try to preach sun screen and protecting their skin but many just don’t care unfortunately. I even had a young girl in her twenties ask what she could do to stop her skin from wrinkling and being uneven and I simply told her no product would help her as long as she was still tanning. Needless to say she flat out told me that she would not stop tanning.
This saddens me because skin cancer is very deadly and can spread throughout the body quickly and aggressively. Your skin is your largest organ yet people mistreat it. Regardless of your ethnicity you need sun screen and you need to reapply it. A tan indicates that the skin is damaged. There are other alternatives to keeping a tan year round and that is of course spray tanning and self tanners that use DHA to change the skin tone. The formulations are far more advanced than before and won’t leave you orange!

I am wearing Happy Matte Liquid Lipstick by Love, Beauty Cosmetics and Coral Cove Rose Blush by Milani Cosmetics
Well hello my beautiful friends! It seems like spring is trying to really kick into gear and I couldn’t be happier! Spring is all about new things growing whether its the flowers trying to bloom or cultivating a new habit or idea. Well this spring I’d love for you to try something new. I want you to incorporate the color orange into your beauty routine!
Hear me out. I say that orange is the new black because it is universally flattering and comes in many hues so you can find the right fit for your complexion. Not only does the color make me happy but it actually will help you look fresh and full of life.
Using an orange/peach/apricot concealer will actually neutralize dark circles and any hyper pigmented marks you may have on your skin. I have seen and done this first hand. It really works. Many cosmetic companies like Lancome are finally getting hip and bringing to consumers what pro makeup artists have been doing for years. You first use the appropriate tone corrector (peach/apricot for light to medium and orange for deeper complexions). If needed you can add a thin layer of your regular concealer on top. Set this lightly with translucent powder and you are good to go!
The science behind this boils down to color theory. Colors that are opposite on the color wheel will neutralize each other. Orange is opposite blue which is why it works for dark circles. You can also add a little yellow corrector if your dark circles have a purple hue as well.
Using an orange hued blush may seem intimidating at first but I promise you won’t regret it!. Using this color actually livens up the skin and gives you a nice healthy and glowing complexion. It will make you look more youthful. I haven’t found a person yet that apricot didn’t work on. In fact I use it in some fashion on every single client and they love it! My new go to is Coral Cove Rose Powder blush by Milani Cosmetics. MAC has tons to choose from as well.
Here is Happy Matte Liquid Lipstick with Huetopia gloss on top!
And lastly, I love a pop of orange on the lips. Love, Beauty Cosmetics just added a new Matte Liquid Lipstick in the color Happy. It lasts all day long and is so beautiful. They also carry a sheer peachy lip gloss in Huetopia which actually can help subtly color correct darker lips. It also works on every shade! You can find it in the Shop link at the top!
Well thanks again for tuning in! Orange you glad you learned something new HAHAHAHA (corny I know!) Until next time beauties!

This past weekend I went to the Made Local Marketplace in Powell, Ohio. I had worked with JRJ on a past photo shoot but I had to see everything for myself! Soon as I arrived at their booth, Rachel knew instantly who I was. It was such an awesome feeling! I think we were equally excited to meet one another.
I was blown away by the color selection. JRJ has everything you can ever want and there are even options to customize. Can we say a special Love, Beauty collection??!!!! Hopefully that will be in the works very soon. Anyway, Rachel was an absolute sweetheart. Her new spring collection with equally fabulous packaging made its debut that day and she let me try out a few.
The first one I tried was Red Delicous and delicious it is! It’s the perfect spring red; not too

Hello Beautiful people!
I recently was able to attend the Face & Body Midwest Spa Conference in Chicago, Il. It was also a part of America’s Beauty Show. I have been to smaller trade shows but this was by far the largest. It took place at the McCormick Place Conference Center. This trade show was the who’s who of the hair, spa and makeup world.
I got the chance to connect with new and exciting products which I can’t wait to bring into my beauty studio. One of the best purchases was the Kett Fixx Creme. It is a wax based creme foundation which makes it bulletproof! This is perfect for my upcoming wedding season to ensure the makeup I do lasts and lasts.
I also picked up some amazing new wax and implements to help soothe skin after waxing and skin treatments. I got to try out other new skin care products from Skin Script which is going to enhance my facial services.
One of the most rewarding parts of this trip was getting to reconnect with Michigan
Devawn and I
Makeup Academy which is where I went to learn about makeup. Devawn is the owner and has some really exciting programs coming up including essential and advanced artistry courses. They also have new options for financing your education so there’s no excuse!!!
Until next time loves!
2014 was the year of some major beauty dos that I want to see carry forward and many don’ts that never should have been. Here is my little fun list of what 2014 was and what I hope 2015 will be.
Let It Go!
The year of dipbrow and “Instagram” brows. Anastasia Beverly Hills is known for all things brows and in 2014 she launched the sometimes infamous dip brow pomade. This product is almost gel like in consistency and has to be applied with a brush. Inexperienced hands tend to over do it and create these very unnatural “Instagram” brows that are sculpted and carved with concealer. This is a trend I hope ends in 2014. One can be hopeful right?
Brint it On!
Instead I like to opt for brows that are full yet not harsh. I want to still see your brow hair not a sharpie like line. And instead of sculpting the brows with concealer, practice getting the proper shape and then clean up as needed.
Let It Go!
Heavy contour and highlight. Anyone who knows me knows how much I despise the overuse of highlight and contour. Ugh. It’s like why even use foundation anymore. Very rarely do these looks translate well in real life and is certainly not needed for everyday wear. When done properly it looks very nice but these YouTube gurus have these consumers fooled into thinking that this is A. a new trend B. you need very specific products to achieve and C. that the highlight and contour placement is the same for everyone. Do me a favor this year and put this trend to its death.
Bring It On!
What happened to beautiful glowing skin? I want that back for 2015. It just looks so healthy! If you still desire some highlight and contour use a deeper and lighter shade foundation. It will blend nicer and look much more subtle and pretty. Let’s forgo the zebra stripes and actually blend our makeup. A subtle contour effect can also be achieved with your choice of blush.
Let It Go!
Spider/Thick/Too Much Lashes. Who doesn’t love a lovely set of lashes. Honestly your lashes can make or break your makeup look. However clumpy mascara isn’t the way to go. I know you’ve seen it; those 3D fiber lashes. And in my opinion they are terrible. They look clumpy and they will break your makeup look. The same applies to super long and super thick stacked lashes. They also have a way of making your eyelids look heavy and can actually close your eyes making them appear smaller. Just. Say. No.
Bring It On!
Instead you can opt for beautiful lash extensions that will look more natural and you can skip that step during your morning makeup routine. If you prefer the mascara route then a great tip is to wiggle the applicator from side to side as you apply mascara. This will help reduce clumps. Also as you pull the wand from the tube be sure to remove excess product. If you still get a few clumps you can take a clean mascara wand or spooley and go over your lashes to remove.
Let’s make 2015 our most beautiful year yet!!
I don’t know about you guys but last night I watched the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show which was taped in London a few weeks ago. This year I was more excited than ever because of the media frenzy leading up to the taping. All of the major mags shared pictures aboard the chartered flight to London which made all of us majorly jealous. They were greeted by VS blankets and swag bags and there was a cute pink carpet on the runway.
This years show certainly didn’t disappoint. The visuals were even more stunning, the wings were larger and the entertainment was superb. But of course I was paying attention to the makeup. According to key makeup artist Dick Page this year’s show was less focused on bronzed beauty and focused instead on a glow from within. He used minimal foundation, made sure skin was properly hydrated and that he actually used a red cream color by Kryolan to create a healthy flush in the cheek and nose area.
So angels, you too can get that lit from within glow using just a few key items.
I’m a VS Angel!
- Tinted Moisturizer. I used one from NYX which helped me hydrate my skin and give me just enough coverage to even my skin tone.
- Rosy Blush. Dick Page used a Kryolan color which is popular in theatrical makeup. However, you can get a nice flush from Benetint by Benefit. It’s a red cheek stain and looks great on multiple skin tones and can be layered for added effect.
- Taupe eye shadow works well on all skin tones and adds definition but still looks very natural. Try the Hefner Eye Shadow by Love, Beauty Cosmetics. For my look I also layered brown and black eye liner and topped it with a Rimmel mascara.
- Pink Lips. This was the theme of last night. Some pinks were soft and innocent while others were bold and brazen but they never strayed. For this look I used Honey Lust Lipstick by Love, Beauty Cosmetics and mixed it with Paint Job Lip Gloss also by Love, Beauty Cosmetics. There are also other soft pink options like Ballet Slipper and Mingle all by Love, Beauty Cosmetics.

Happy Makeup Monday Beauties!
I know I say this every time but I have been so crazy working on a project so big that it consumed me for a little while. I have launched my Love, Beauty Cosmetics company and I have named my very first fall collection Blushing Gilt.
Fall has been the inspiration behind this introductory collection. I was inspired by the clothes that are hot this fall. Honestly, I have to give thanks to Lubna of Lubna Designs for her inspiring fall collection. From the new wardrobe I was able to pull colors for both eyeshadows and lips that would complement them.
What sets me apart is that my shadows are triple milled and come packed with pigment yet are easily blended. The hues will create any fall look that is perfect for the day or night. The lipsticks and glosses complement the shadows nicely as well and are packed with Vitamin E which nourishes and protects the lips.
Stay posted for the official launch! Have a Beautiful Day!
Happy Monday Beauties! Boy oh boy it’s been a busy two weeks for me. There’s been a lot going on but I want to share with you my experiences at the Pro Artist Weekend put on by Makeup Forever.
First, if you’re unfamiliar with Makeup Forever you need to stop what you’re doing and check them out. They are one of my absolute favorite brands and their products continue to get better and better. One of the reasons you may not be as familiar with them is because there are only a handful of boutiques across the country. However their staple products can be found at your local Sephora.
My daughters and I
In an effort to expand brand awareness, they have put on pro artist weekends in cities that do not have a boutique. Of course nothing comes to Ohio so I decided to go to the one in Washington DC. I made it a mini family vacation. I was a tourist for a day and then it was time to get to work and take some classes.
Day 1 was free!! There were demos that were put on by seasoned artists. The first was for bridal makeup. It was great because I learned some techniques on making makeup last for a long time of course using Makeup Forever’s products. Next was the flawless foundation demo that was led by Mr. AJ Crimson. He is a phenomenal artist who also has his own collection of foundations. That class was great because I learned some things about texture and choosing the right products. Next up was a class geared towards editorial makeup and how to transform a look for multiple shots. It really showed me to have a story whenever I go into a shoot. The day wrapped up with AJ Crimson returning to talk about building your personal brand and how to get to where you want to be.
AJ Crimson speaking about his experiences
Day 2 was the hands on portion. It was very reasonble at $125 redeemable in product. I got my hands on some great products like the flash neutral pallet and a couple of lip pallets. The class I took was advanced and was geared for red carpet/special event makeup. I challenge myself now to pay attention to every detail because it all matters.
I love that Makeup Forever put these classes on. I’ve always been an advocate for the brand and I’m glad I got to connect with them on an artist level. They have classes coming up in a few other cities so hurry and register!!!
Hi Beauties! I have to start off by apologizing for not adding new content sooner. I’m soooo sorry. Life sometimes gets in the way and between the illness and death of my grandfather and opening my new Beauty Boutique life got kind of crazy. But I’m back and excited to bring you new beauty news!
So a few months ago I was doing research in my beauty magazines about the newest products getting ready to hit the shelves. One of the products that caught my eye was the new gloss from CoverGirl called Colorlicious. This collection boasts 13 colors and the tagline is:
“Shades that never lie. 13 luscious glosses with true to the tube shades. What you see is what you get!”
Display at Target
So I searched every drugstore high and low for about the past month and a half with no luck. It was this past weekend when I was getting a lipstick for a bride that I saw them! I knew I had to have it. I was so happy to see that a drugstore brand had gloss comparable to my $20 tubes. I ended up buying three shades; Give me Guava, Whipped Berry and Succulent Citrus. They look so vibrant in the tubes so I couldn’t wait for them to be true to color. If you know me then you know I love bold lips!
My 3 purchases Give me Guava, Succulent Citrus and Whipped Berry
So I intentionally did not wear any lip color to the store so I could immediately put my color on. Imagine my disappointment when the bolder colors weren’t so true to the tube. The formula is sheer and barely buildable without greasy looking lips. Plus they kind of made my lips tingle a little. I hate Whipped Berry. Succulent Citrus is tolerable and I actually like Give me Guava. Give me Guava is a natural sheer color anyway so you can pair it with a nice lipstick.
Bottom line, don’t waste your money. There are other affordable true to color glosses that don’t require layer upon layer to be able to see the color.
My favorite of the 3 Give me Guava
Succulent Citrus. It’s not very vibrant tho
You see the look on my face? Whipped Berry is a flop
I’m so happy to start another week. Each new week is an opportunity to be great! My grandpa always told me that you should learn something new everyday. And well today I’m going to give you the run down on microbeads and how you can safely and effectively exfoliate your skin!
Last week, Illinois became the first state to place a ban on products that contain microbeads. These microbeads are found in many facial and body care products and they are made up of plastic. Well due to their small size, when they are washed down the drain they are missed by the filtration system and end up in our lakes, rivers, and oceans. Since they are so small, fish and other sea creatures often mistake them for fish eggs and eat them as food. Well this is extremely dangerous as these animals are ingesting toxins which in turn hurts the food supply.
Many large companies are looking at using alternative exfoliating sources. Here’s where my concern as an esthetician comes in. Many companies will use natural exfoliants like apricot and walnut shells. However I am totally against that. The problem is that mediums like apricot and walnut are uneven. They can be extremely damaging to the skin because you are not getting an even exfoliation. I have had clients whose skin was very rough due to scrubs that contained these ingredients. They are fine for other body parts but absolutely not for the face.
I have never been a proponent for scrubs for the face in the first place. I think the facial skin is so delicate and should be treated as such. However, if you absolutely must have a scrub for your face, use one that contains jojoba beads. The jojoba beads are even and spherical and jojoba is a great hydrator for your skin. I however prefer AHA and BHA exfoliants. My favorite exfoliators contain lactic, glycolic or salicylic acid depending on what skin issues you are trying to fix. Lactic and glycolic are great for bringing new skin to the surface while not drying your skin out. Salicylic is designed for more acneic skin. They dissolve the dead layer of skin to get fresh skin to come out and is the safest for the skin. Of course you should see an esthetician for a good enzyme facial to really help your skin be flawless!
If you currently have any products with microbeads in them, please properly dispose of it and replace those products with ones that are safer for our environment. Any questions comments or concerns/
